Emergency numbers: 112 and 166

112 is the single European emergency number, free from any phone including one with no SIM, and reaches police, fire, ambulance and coastguard; operators handle Greek, English and French. Greece also uses it to push SMS alerts about wildfires and severe weather to every phone in an affected area. Direct lines are 166 for EKAB ambulance, 100 police, 199 fire, 108 coastguard and 1571 for the tourist police helpline.
