Roman Baths (Thermes) of Ancient Samos
A 2nd-century AD Roman bath complex with an octagonal cold pool and underfloor heating.
About
Just outside Pythagoreio, beside the ancient city's gymnasium and stadium, lie the Thermes, built in the second half of the 2nd century AD: changing rooms at the entrance, the cold-bath hall with its octagonal pool to the north, the hot rooms with their hypocaust underfloor heating to the south, and a small vaulted chamber that served as a steam room. In the 5th century an Early Christian basilica went up over the site and the steam room became its baptistery. It is one of the quieter corners of the Pythagoreion World Heritage area.
