About
The theatre of ancient Samos, Roman in date, sits on the slope just below the Panagia Spiliani monastery. Very little of the original stonework survives — its blocks were reused elsewhere in the town. After the 1996 excavation a wooden theatre of about 750 seats was built on the spot, and in summer it hosts performances and concerts. Even empty, the view from the tiers down over the harbour to the Turkish mountains repays the climb.
