Small village at 300m built like a balcony over the Aegean, a starting point for the north-slope trails.
About
Ampelos, still called Nenedes by older islanders, is one of the quieter villages of northern Samos. It is built on a steep north-facing slope, so the view runs from east to west, as far as Chios and the coast of Asia Minor. It sees far fewer visitors than Manolates but has the same stone houses, plenty of running water, vineyards and real calm. Footpaths start here for Stavrinides, two kilometres below, and on to Manolates.
