Pyrgos
Village at the centre of the island on the south-west foothills of Ampelos, known for its honey.
About
Pyrgos sits in the middle of Samos, well away from the beaches, beside the Amfilysos river on the south-west foothills of Mount Ampelos. It is one of the island's larger villages and the one locals associate with honey, along with olive oil, wine and timber. Traditional houses, cobbled alleys, old churches and a square of kafeneia where people still ask where you are from. A good stop if you are driving on towards the southern villages or Spatharaioi.
