Nopera Winery
Small winery in Neo Karlovasi, the island's first private estate after the cooperative monopoly ended.
About
The family story starts in the mid-19th century, when the Noperas moved from Malta to Samos and within a few decades were making high-quality sweet Samos Muscat. Until 2013 a 1934 law obliged every grower on the island to deliver their crop to the cooperative; Evangelos Mitilinaios pushed the change to that law, which made Nopera the first private winery on Samos. They farm three vineyards in different parts of the island, four hectares in total with vines of a median age of 30 years, and vinify gently, producing both the classic sweet Muscat and a small range of dry wines. Visits are by booking.
